AUCTION INSIGHT

As spring takes hold, farmers are working quickly to prepare fields and get crops in the ground. At Catalyst Communications, Hot Line Farm and Antique Monthly Update, we share auction insights to help buyers make informed equipment decisions.
While tractors and tillage tools handle the heavy lifting, sprayers play a critical role— applying preemergent herbicides and nutrients right after planting. This is when performance, timing, and reliability matter most.
Sprayers have come a long way from early hand pumps and ground rigs. By the mid-20th century, boom sprayers improved coverage and efficiency. More recent advancements— hydraulic booms, pressurized nozzles, GPS, and rate control— have transformed them into precision tools. Today’ s selfpropelled sprayers are essential for maximizing yields and minimizing waste.
The following are recent auction results from across the U. S.:
• John Deere 4730 sprayers from 2009 – 2013 brought $ 41,500 to $ 76,000, with prices influenced by boom width and hours.
• John Deere R4038 models sold between $ 73,500 and $ 148,000, with newer units and wider booms commanding more.
• Case IH Patriot 3330 sprayers brought $ 70,000 and $ 77,500, each equipped with 1,000-gallon stainless tanks and wide booms.
• Sprayers ranged from a 2023 John Deere 408R( 303 hours) that sold for $ 280,000 to a John Deere 6700 at $ 11,500, reflecting broad options for every budget.
These figures highlight strong demand for well-equipped, late-model sprayers. Buyers seeking cost-effective solutions will still find value in older models— making it worthwhile to monitor auction trends when planning equipment upgrades.
