AUCTION INSIGHT
As summer turns toward harvest prep, many producers are relying on versatile utility vehicles to cover ground, move tools, and scout fields efficiently. At Catalyst Communications, Hot Line Farm and Antique Monthly Update keeps a close watch on auction trends to assist buyers in making timely, strategic equipment choices.
In the 1980s, early ATVs became popular as recreational vehicles, but farmers rapidly saw their offroad potential. Side-by-sides, also known as UTVs, became popular because they could carry more weight, seat more people, and move heavier goods. Whether for chores, scouting, or transport, utility vehicles continue to prove their value across operations of all sizes.
Here is a quick look at recent sales that show what the current US market is like:
• Polaris Ranger XP 1000 models continue to command strong prices, with well-kept late-model models frequently landing in the high teens to low 20s. Cabs, low hours, and clean cosmetics drive bidding.
• Ranger 1000 and Crew variants showed a broader spread— some trading under $ 10,000, others climbing well above, depending on use history and add-ons like A / C or multi-passenger setups.
• Bobcat Toolcat 5600Ds posted some of the widest price spreads this summer, reflecting differences in age, hours, and configuration. Clean, cab-equipped units brought noticeably higher bids.
• Kubota RTV500s offered consistent value, with multiple units changing hands between $ 1,600 and $ 4,500 which is a good bargain for purchasers who need them for work.
These numbers show that there is a lot of demand for UTVs with low hours and a lot of amenities. Polaris and Bobcat models with cab and utility features are prime examples. Meanwhile, smaller units like the Kubota RTV500 continue to be popular with people who want to save money.
