AUCTION INSIGHT
As the year winds down and another season comes to a close, producers are taking stock of what worked, what needs upgrading, and which machines earned their keep. At Catalyst Communications, Hot Line Farm and Antique Monthly Update track auction trends to help buyers make informed, timely equipment decisions.
Modern farming has come a long way from the days of horses and hand tools. Over the course of this past year, we have explored the history of key farm equipment types and how each one earned its place on today’ s farms.
This month, instead of focusing on a single equipment type, we’ re closing out the year with a“ most-searched models” highlight reel, bringing together the top equipment models our readers looked up on the Farm Equipment Guide website, along with recent auction results that show what buyers actually paid.
Here is a quick look at recent sales that show what the current US market is like:
• John Deere 5075E( Tractor) – As our most searched model of the year, this tractor saw auction prices range from under $ 10,000 for rougher units to the high- $ 20,000s for clean, late-model machines.
• John Deere S780( Combine) – This S-series combine saw 2023 models clearing above $ 350,000 and older units still landing well into the $ 140,000 –$ 150,000 range.
• John Deere 567( Hay Baler) – This long-running baler continued to deliver consistent value, with field-ready units clustering around the $ 6,000 –$ 7,000 mark.
• Bobcat T770 M3( Skid Steer Loader) – T770 M3 prices showed a dramatic range— from low- $ 20,000s on older, high-hour loaders to more than $ 50,000 on late-model, low-hour cab units.
