AUCTION INSIGHT
As summer takes hold, farmers across the country are looking ahead to harvest— and evaluating the machines that will bring it in. At Catalyst Communications, Hot Line Farm and Antique Monthly Update, we track auction activity and buyer interest to help you make well-timed, informed equipment decisions.
Few machines have shaped modern agriculture more than the combine. First introduced in the 1800s, early combines were pulled by horse teams or steam tractors and required several operators. By the 20th century, self-propelled combines streamlined the harvesting process, drastically improving efficiency. Today’ s combines are sophisticated, high-capacity machines. Current-day models integrate GPS guidance, yield monitoring, and automated threshing controls. These features help farmers cover more ground with greater precision and less fatigue.
The following are recent auction results from across the U. S.:
• A 2022 John Deere S790 sold in Arkansas for up to $ 265,000. Farmers expect more than power when spending more on farm equipment. They expect comfort. Popular options included fourwheel drive, enclosed cabs, and air conditioning.
• The John Deere S780, a slightly older model, went for $ 135,000 in Illinois. Its consistent resale value signals strong market confidence in this series.
• The John Deere 9770 STS continues to attract buyers, with units from 2009 – 2011 selling for $ 50,750 to $ 86,500. These models remain popular thanks to their balance of features and affordability.
• A 2003 Case IH 2388 sold in Missouri for $ 8,000. Another similar model brought $ 23,000 in Iowa. Buyers turn to these legacy combines for dependable performance at an affordable price.
June’ s auction results show strong demand for both high-end models and trusted older machines. Buyers are prioritizing reliability, maintenance history, and performance during peak harvest windows. These trends highlight the value of matching the right machine to the needs of the operation.
