AUCTION INSIGHT
by Donna Hogan
Many farmers and antique tractor enthusiasts find that winter is the perfect time to restore antique farm equipment— the crops are in and you have time to relax and work on your hobbies.
Tractors are one of the most commonly restored farm equipment items, and many antique tractors( restored and ready to be restored) are found at farm equipment auctions.
Condition is a big factor for antique tractors, an unrestored complete and running tractor will often bring twice the money or more than a complete tractor that does not start and run.
For those who like a powerful tractor, the WD45 was the most powerful Allis Chalmers tractor of its time. If you talk to any Allis Chalmers buff, they will tell you that the WD stands for“ won’ t die.” Over 90,000 model WD45 were built from 1953-57. Two of these powerful beauties recently sold at an auction in Indiana for $ 3,000 and $ 4,000.
