UTLOOK e Spotlight: Harvest Equipment Watch

OCTOBER AUCTION SPOTLIGHT
Auction season continues through October and can provide another opportunity to find harvest equipment, support machinery and other farm assets.
The Farmers Hot Line Auction Calendar currently lists BigIron Online Auctions running October 1 – 31, with additional auction listings continually added to the calendar.
Because auction inventory changes quickly, buyers should check the calendar regularly rather than relying on a static list of equipment.

INDUSTRY INSIGHT Harvest Readiness: The $ 5 Part That Can Stop a $ 500,000 Machine
Farmers Hot Line recently took a practical look at one of harvest ' s biggest challenges: preventable downtime.
The lesson is simple. Harvest performance isn ' t just about preparing the combine.
Grain carts, augers, conveyors and trucks deserve the same attention. Tires, bearings, brakes, lights and hydraulics should be checked, while augers should be inspected for worn flighting, damaged tubes and failing bearings.
As equipment grows larger and more productive, keeping every piece of the harvest chain working together becomes increasingly important. One bottleneck can slow the entire operation when weather and field conditions finally provide the perfect harvest window.

BUYING TIP OF THE MONTH Match capacity before you add capacity.
Before purchasing a larger grain cart, header or other harvest equipment, look at the entire operation.
Can the tractor comfortably handle the cart? Can trucks move grain away quickly enough? Can your auger or conveyor keep up? Is storage prepared for increased throughput?
The best equipment investment isn ' t always the machine with the greatest capacity— it ' s the one that removes the biggest bottleneck in your existing harvest system.
COMING NEXT MONTH Retail Outlook: Marketplace Spotlight November— Utility Tractors & Loaders
Once harvest begins winding down, attention turns to the machines that work all year.
Next month we ' ll look at utility tractors and loaders— including what to consider when comparing horsepower, hydraulics, loader capacity, hours and attachments, plus current Farmers Hot Line marketplace opportunities.
