AUCTION INSIGHT

As harvest moves into full swing, producers are working long hours and counting on their corn heads to gather every row cleanly. At Catalyst Communications, Hot Line Farm and Antique Monthly Update, we continue to bring you valuable insights into the latest auction trends and market shifts.
Corn heads have grown from simple six- and eight-row units into twelve-row machines with hydraulic deck plates, knife rolls, and automatic height sensing, built to keep pace with larger combines and higher-yielding crops. Through each generation, the core design of gathering chains, snapping rolls, and row dividers has stayed familiar, so older heads remain easy to repair and fit to a wide range of combines. For operations covering fewer acres or needing a dependable backup, a well-kept older head still brings in the crop for a fraction of the cost of new. Buyers at auction continue to put money behind them.
The following is a sampling of corn heads at recent auctions around the U. S.:
• John Deere 612C sold for approximately $ 18,900 to $ 37,000 across the Midwest, with 2017 12-row, 30-inch models bringing $ 29,000 to $ 37,000.
• John Deere 693 sold for approximately $ 4,300 to $ 7,800 in Illinois and Missouri. Most were 6-row, 30-inch heads from the mid-1990s to early 2000s.
• Case IH 1063 sold for approximately $ 1,000 to $ 4,500 in Illinois and Missouri. Nearly all were 6-row, 30-inch units.
• Case IH 1083 sold for approximately $ 900 to $ 2,750 in Missouri and Ohio, giving buyers an 8-row option at some of the lowest prices in this sampling.
• Case IH 2208 sold for approximately $ 1,957 to $ 6,000 in Missouri and Ohio. The top price was an 8-row, 30-inch unit with hydraulic deck plates in Ohio.
These examples reflect a small portion of auction activity captured in our database, which tracks a much broader range of models, configurations, and price points nationwide.
