International Harvester Company

The formation of the International Harvester Company was both a joining of fierce competitors and an acquisition of numerous smaller operations. The McCormick Company was well known for its reapers, dating back to 1831. The Deering Company began selling Marsh Harvesters and several types of binders in 1873. In 1902, the International Harvester Company joined McCormick & Deering, as well as incorporating a vast number of smaller machinery and equipment companies. Each of the two major companies maintained their own product lines until the International Harvester Farmall tractor was introduced in 1924. The Farmall line was extremely popular and reliable, and stayed in production for many years. The International Harvester Company merged with J. I. Case in 1985 and those two manufacturers, along with Stieger, became known as Case I. H. in 1995.
