Lauson

The Lauson tractor has a short and varied history, and not much is known of the individual builders. It seems that these tractors were built in various locations, and it is unclear as to why this took place.

In 1903, S P and J Lauson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin obtained plans from Otto Manufacturing of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and built their first tractor. From 1916 through 1919 John Lauson Manufacturing of New Holstein, Wisconsin, successfully manufactured several tractor models. It is not stated if John Lauson is J Lauson that built the 1903 tractor, or in what way he may have been connected, if not the original builder. Lauson introduced two models in 1916 and one in 1918. The next new model was not introduced until 1920; and it was built for two years, thus creating a pattern of new models being produced every two years. The John Lauson Manufacturing Company discontinued building new tractors in 1937.
The Nichols and Shepard Company of Battle Creek, Michigan introduced two Lauson tractor models between 1926 and 1930. There is also a G P Lauson who had owned one of the original Otto plans and sold it to Rockford Engine Works; it is also unclear if he was one of the original Lauson’ s.
